What is an Emergency?
Emergencies are unpredictable and sometimes life threating. At Dr B's Vet Clinic we pride our self on taking the very best care your pets.
Our reception team triage all emergency cases, so we can get them the best care and treatment.
Blood Transfusion
The blood transfusion is given directly into the vein through the IV catheter. The total dose of blood to be transfused is based on the dog's size and how much blood they have lost. This is given over a specific time period, and the dog is monitored very closely to be sure they aren't developing an allergic reaction.

Often, the need for a blood transfusion is an emergency, such as severe bleeding or sudden destruction of red blood cells due to other disease. Transfusions may also be needed to treat anemia.
Emergency Surgery
We provide a variety of routine and advanced emergency surgeries, including:
Foreign body removal/ingested substance removal
Exploratory/diagnostic surgery
Wound repair (lacerations, bite wounds, burn injuries, etc.)
Emergency C-sections.
Specialist Transfer
Or
In-hours Transfer
Specialist referral is available for the patients who require specialist care. It is necessary when a pet's condition requires specialized diagnostic tests, treatments, or surgical procedures beyond the general practice level. Common reasons for referral include complex medical conditions, chronic diseases needing advanced management, complex surgeries, or specialized diagnostic imaging like MRI or CT scans. Referral ensures pets receive the highest level of care from specialists equipped with advanced skills and resources, improving the chances of accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. In-hours transfer service ensures continuous care for animals requiring urgent medical attention when their regular veterinarian is unavailable. During after-hours transfer, trained staff transport and accompany pets, providing seamless continuity of care and immediate access to emergency treatment. This allows pets to receive timely medical intervention, critical for managing acute conditions or injuries beyond the scope of regular clinic hours, ultimately ensuring the best possible outcomes for our furry companions.

Hospitalisation
Hospitalization may be indicated in many different scenarios. If a pet is not eating and/or is dehydrated, we often recommend hospitalization in order that IV fluids and medications can be administered through an IV catheter. Some pets require blood and plasma transfusions and need monitoring following administration.
