Common Diagnosis
Eye Ulcers
At Dr B’s Vet clinic, we have a high population of brachycephalic breeds. Brachycephalic breeds are prone to have eye problems such as superficial ulcer, deep ulcer, melting ulcer, and descemetocele ulcer. Our veterinarian will stain the eye to check the presence of ulcer. Then, prescribe the ideal eye drop or ointment for the condition.
Allergies
Does your dog have itchy skins or paws? Does it get worse when going out for a walk on the grass? Does it get worse when giving beef or chicken? Allergies in dogs can be caused by many reasons. Most common causes are atopy (airborne allergy), contact allergies, flea allergy, and food allergies. There are several ways of controlling allergies and each drug works in a different route/receptor. Our veterinarian will collect the history and identify what is the most likely cause of allergies in your pets. Then, they will prescribe or guide you through what kind of treatment(s) they need for each condition.
Cat Flu
Cat flu is a common respiratory problem that happens to occur in unvaccinated cats. The virus can affect all ages but is particularly severe in kittens. However, older cats who are immunocompromised are also prone to get this virus. Cat flu is highly contagious and spreads among cats through discharge from the eyes, nose, and mouth, as well as contaminated food or water bowls. There are many different type of viruses that can cause cat flu. The two most common viruses are Feline Herpes Virus 1 (FHV-1) and Feline Calicivirus (FCV). These viruses are included in the core F3 vaccines that all vaccinated cats receive, offering protection against them.
Skin Infections
Skin infection is another common disease in veterinary medicine. Our veterinarian will thoroughly check the skin. If it’s required, the veterinarian will perform skin cytology and diagnose the causes of skin infection. It is important to correctly diagnose the cause of skin infection because misuse of treatment can develop resistance.
Ear Infections
Ear infection is one of the most common diseases that is diagnosed in general practice in veterinary medicine. Our veterinarian will look at both ears with the otoscope (Ear device to look at the eardrum). If ear cytology is required, the veterinarian will perform an ear swab and perform staining to look under the microscope. It is important to discover if the eardrum is still intact or ruptured because the treatment options are different.

Gastrointestinal
Vomiting and Diarrhea are the first most common signs of gastrointestinal tract problems. There are many possible reasons for vomiting and diarrhea in dogs and cats; it also can be a mild to serious cause. Due to various causes of Vomiting and diarrhea, history collection is very important. The colors of vomit and diarrhea are very important to identify the problems. At Dr.B’s vet clinic, we recommend the clients to take a photo and bring it to the veterinarians. Severe vomiting and diarrhea can rapidly lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance which could be life threatening in pets.
Lump and Bump Check
One of the most common problems in middle to old aged pets is lump and bump on the skin. At Dr.B’s Vet clinic, the veterinarian collects some history about the lumps. Our veterinarian will perform FNA (Fine needle aspiration) which is basically collecting the cells of the lump and looking under the microscope. This will tell us what kind of cells (Cancer or non-cancer) they are and if it needs to be removed surgically.
Coughing in Dogs
Does your dog start coughing during the day? Is it getting worse? Coughing in dogs commonly happens in all ages. Histories, vaccination status and signalment are crucial for investigating the causes of coughing. In puppies, it is most likely due to kennel cough. However, in middle to older dogs, there are other causes of coughing which are respiratory problems (lungs) and cardiovascular problems (heart). In order to accurately diagnose the problem, thorough physical examination and diagnostic imaging tests are required. Call us at (07) 3802 8763 to find out more details.
